"The dream is a little hidden door in the innermost and most secret recesses of the soul." --- CG Jung
So you want to understand a dream you've had? Something about the dream touches you in some way, and you feel an urge to try to understand it. You can put away the “Dream Dictionary” for now. You really don’t need it, and you’ll amaze yourself when you learn to unlock the secrets that are hidden in your own dreams for yourself. The process can be fun and not very difficult at all. Really!
You had a particular dream for a reason. You’re dream could have been about many different things, but instead it was about your boss eating all of your chocolate chip cookies that you just baked for a big family gathering. Or, you were back at school, naked, and you hadn’t prepared for the big exam! These dreams do have something in common that might be missed, even if you use one of the dream books. One of the most important aspects of working with your dreams is Time.
When is your dream taking place? Is it now? Is it the past, or far future? How old do you feel in the dream? Are you the age you are now, or do you feel younger? Just by identifying the time setting you can learn a lot about what the dream is trying to tell you. For instance, the school dream from above can relate to experiences that you had at that time. You might look to see how these past experiences helped you to overcome some obstacle, or achieve some goal. How do these accomplishments relate to an issue that is important to you now?
Along with looking at the timing of the dream, you can look at how you feel in the dream. What feelings do you experience in the dream? Do you feel happy, excited, embarrassed or angry? In the cookie dream you might feel very angry with your boss. The dream might relate to the way that he makes you feel when he takes all the credit for the work that you have done, and somehow makes you feel childish for wanting the credit for yourself.
At first some of the conclusions that you come up with might seem like leaps of logic and faith. Yet, by tracking, analyzing and recording your dreams you’ll begin to get a handle on whether or not certain themes and experiences seem to be recurring, and you’ll come to know what certain symbols and images mean for you, rather than having a dream guide offer up answers that may not apply to you.
Questions to ask about your dreams:
- How old am I in the dream? (Am I me?)
- When is this dream taking place? (Is it now, past or future?)
- What time of day is it?
- What time of year is it?
- How do I feel about the events in the dream?
- How do I feel about the time that the dream represents?
In conjunction with the time aspect of your dream, you can also utilize Numerology to help you to discover the inner meaning hidden with it. You could benefit by looking at the theme for both the Universal Year (2010 is a 3 year) and your Personal Year. The dream may be trying to tell you something about the way you are navigating through certain opportunities and challenges that are currently being presented to you. The dream may also be asking you to be aware of the potential that the current time has to offer.
Within Numerology a #3 year has the potential for you to learn about abundance, joy and indulgence. This can take form in a variety of ways, including experiences through work, avocation, luxuries, gossip, partnerships, relationships and food. It can be especially important to be aware of the following things:
- Are you wasting time and energy?
- What is your level of emotional expression?
- How committed are you?
- Do you have a need to fit in and belong?
- Do you have a need for connection?
- Are you aware of the words and phrases that you are using?
- What is your sense of your self worth?
The answers to the questions above may help you to dig deeper into the meaning of your dreams. They can help to shine a light on the areas in your life where you are experiencing joy, excitement and abundance. You might then look back to the dream to see how these experiences might be reflected within the dream. The dream might also have clues and suggestions that can help you to achieve the experiences that you are currently seeking.
Also, remember that 2010 has the potential to stir up situations that involve passion, yearning and desire. You may need to be more aware of your true needs. Your dream may be pointing the way to how to accept and work with your true needs. And, some of the events and dreams that occur in your life might have the capacity to nudge you toward a personal challenge. Having a support network to help you with your personal and spiritual needs can be important, especially if you want to rise to the challenge to answer the call of your dreams.
Find a way to work with your dreams to discover what they mean for you. They can offer valuable insights into your life. You may simply have to begin to spend time in reflection with the questions to help yourself to get deeper insights into their meaning. You might also involve friends in family in small circle to work your dreams together. The more practice and effort that you put into understanding your dreams, the better and more skilled you will become at interpreting them.
